How did the depression affect people in the countryside?

Many farmers did not share in the prosperity of the 1920s and as the depression hit town and country alike, people struggled to buy even the most basic of goods such as food and clothing. Farmers found they could not sell their produce and prices fell so low that farmers could not even afford to harvest their crops. As their income fell more andmore farmers went bankrupt and were evicted by the banks. The image shows a migratory family from Amarillo, Texas.
